Kia Motors Corporation (KMC), founded in 1944, is South Korea's oldest and second-largest automobile manufacturer of motor vehicles. Over 1.5 million vehicles are produced every year in 13 manufacturing and assembly operations in eight countries. The company is now planning to enter the Indian market in 2019 with their 'Made for India' SUV- SP2 Concept. The company is currently building a production facility in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. The expected annual production capacity is 300,000 units. Kia has committed investments to the tune of $1.1 billion to develop operations in India.
Kia Motors entered into an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government on April 20, 2017, to produce 3 lakh vehicles annually, with an investment of Rs 13,000 cr to provide employment opportunities to 11,000 persons, including 4,000 direct jobs. The plant works are being carried out at a brisk pace. The engine shop, body shop, paint shop, seat shop, assembled unit, utility centre and power train shop are being established in the main unit of the plant.
In partnership with the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), Kia Motors has selected 2,000 candidates for skill training workshop. After completion of training, candidates will be shortlisted in 1:3 ratio for jobs in Kia Motors. The main objective behind this basic technical skill development course is to enhance the skills of diploma holders to make them job ready in the automobile industry.
